Just Hanging Out...

Yes I did it this morning! Don't get ahead of yourselves. I had written in my pocket calendar that I Live by that I had my Shoulder Dystocia class this am. At 7am. Aghh. So I was up at 5:30 this am and gone by about 6:10 to work.
Well the class is not until 8:30am. So here I sit in the library killing time before I walk down to the other end of the hospital. I could of stayed in bed longer this am!!! I like sleeping in =)
Course poor hubby said I was snoring like a walrus last night. Blech. I may eventually go to the docs to see about that.
So anyway I will be sitting in the class allllll day. Then back to work tomorrow night. This is my weekend to work too. So it will be a busy weekend for me. They say it's going to rain. I don't care since I'll be spending the days sleeping lol. Sorry!
Ok off to class. Sorry I have nothing mind blowing to share at the moment. But check back. Tomorrow's another new day!
Chow!

Hey dbs. The class (yesterday) was 4 hours long. We first had lectures, then we went down to an empty floor where they had the birthing dummy set up. They paid scads of money on this thing and it was funny as heck lol. A nurse controlled her voice and caused her to "give birth". We had 3 OB Docs who came along and simulated a real shoulder dystocia. We all played parts. This was all video taped. Hillarious I can tell you but very effective in learning. Then we all went to a conferance room and viewed the tapes, had a good laugh and discussed how we all could do better. I learned alot in the class. I hope I don't have to use the knowledge any time soon tho. =)

That sounds like a really cool idea, the "drills" or simulations of emergencies like that. We just did some on our unit for maternal codes and hemmorrage. I would love to do codes for dystoica, cord prolapse, ruptures, etc. I think the cord prolapse is my biggest fear as a new grad (I've never seen one and would really have no clue what do to besides sticking my hand up there to hold the presenting part up while trying to keep my head!). I don't know how you'd practice something like this, but I think it would be a good idea. Does your hospital do those kind of drills too?
